Subject: Spinal Immobilization

Summary

This class will look at several spine boarding devices and situations. Scenarios will include such cases as immobilization of supine patients, prone patients as well as unique situations such as tight spaces, odd body positions. Devices that will be used are select-a-size c-collars, long spine board, KED, pediatric board and car seats.

 Goals

Participants will be refreshed on skills involving immobilization of the supine patient as well as become more familiar with other devices as listed above. In general, we at Rice Co EMS, have good back boarding skills. But like anything else there is room for improvement. Some of the recent events that have generated this training are minor things noticed in the field which includes, but not limited to: incomplete neurovascular assessment before and after application, general unfamiliarity with the KED and the need of a general refreshing with application of pediatric board and immobilization using a car seat.
